Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon Review

I heard about this book, I wanted to read it, but they haven't translated it yet to Portuguese, which is my language. I decided to wait a few months (it took 2 months) for this book to come out in pt. But I didn't like the translation of the title (yes, I'm weird), so I didn't buy right away.
I heard about the movie coming out, saw the trailer and then I was like... Nope, I have to buy this. And I did. And I'm glad.

You probably notice that I only reviewed 2 books in this blog (this one now and Looking for Alaska by John Green), and both are 5 stars, but I normally only buy books that I'm sure I will enjoy. If you find one that is only 1 or 2 stars then probably someone gave it to me as a present. I still appreciate it, doesn't mean I like it.

Anyway. Moving on to the real review.

Title: Everything, Everything

Author: Nicola Yoon

Release Date: September 1st, 2015

My Rating: 5 Stars

Format: Physical Book (Paperback)

At the beginning, with all those graphics I thought it was going to be such a quick read. And it was. But still I didn't want to finish the book in one day, I had to make myself stop.

Most chapters are only 1 page long, some only have one paragraph, with 5 sentences, some have drawings. So yes, quick read.

I felt like it was going to be quite stupid. She has a disease, can't get out of the house or she will die, and then she meets a boy, and because of him, she want's to risk her life. I thought it was stupid, but I kind of understood that even though she started having the idea of getting out of the house because of him, she was also doing it because of her, she would live her entire life trapped inside the house, never knowing anything about the world, and she wanted to know the world before she died.
So she and Olly went to Hawaii, she wanted to meet a fish with a really long name (and I could only say that fish name because of a song of High School Musical 2), it's called Humuhumunukunukuapua'a, yes, mouthful.

She traveled, had fun, live, laughed and loved. And then the expected comes, she collapses and goes to the hospital, gets back home and her mom is always with her to make sure she's ok.

SPOILER (highlight to see)

She finds out that after all she's not sick, the doctor that treated her in Mawi tells her that. So she goes to a specialist. She doesn't have it. She gets mad at her mom (for obvious reasons) and she moves to New York, and guess who's there? Olly.

I really enjoyed this books, I read it in 2 days, it shows that you have to live your life to the fullest and not let anyone trap you from who you really are. In the second day, I just didn't care if I didn't want it to finish, I stayed up until 4 am.
This was amazingly well-written, and it's a very thoughtful story. I recommend it!

What did you think of this book? How long did it take you to finish?
